Socialists Don’t Get It

  15 Feb 2019

I’m not sure if freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) was around during the Reagan era and the economic notion of supply-side economics, but I’m pretty sure her partner in crime against capitalism, Elizabeth Warren was. I don’t know what either of these women studied in school, but I can assure you it was not economics. Who is Elizabeth Warren to tell us the difference between rich and poor? One’s bank account is not the only measure of wealth, for what is wealth if you are poor in spirit. What should I care about taxes when I do not have my health? Am I rich if I if have no family or relationships, or am ostracized for my political beliefs? I would argue not.

The Marxist school of social economics was introduced to the concept of the Laffer curve in the 80’s. Economist Arthur Laffer attempted to show the relationship between tax rates and the amount of tax revenue collected by governments. It illustrates the concept of taxable income elasticity, for example, taxable income changes in response to changes in the rate of taxation. In layman’s terms, you can only tax a person to such a point that they will continue to work.

The concept of raising taxes is antithetical to growth as one can see. As you continue to raise the tax rate on individuals and/or corporations, you will actually decrease the overall amount of revenue brought in by the government. This ultimately leads to the type of economy that the radical left desires. One in which incentive has been removed and to slow down entrepreneurism, which fuels capitalism. This will of course does not affect the non-tax paying proletariat, who already lounge in the austerity of socialism.

Democrats have gotten their way by encumbering excessive achievers to shoulder more of the costs of society and therefore should pay more because they can. This is the reasoning behind the so-called “progressive tax system,” where rates increase as your income increases. Democrats like Michael Bloomberg and former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz, who is mulling an independent run for president, have spoken out against taxing the rich. In doing so, they are no longer useful idiots of the left and have received a terse reaction from their less-than-wealthy democratic peers. Bloomberg’s response to Warren’s brave new economy is that it is probably unconstitutional. He remarked during a recent trip to New Hampshire, “There is already a disturbing model for redistributing wealth. It’s called Venezuela.”

Freshman Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar has floated taxing the wealthy at a rate of up to 90 percent to fund the free-for-all programs. That’s a great idea. I think she should implement it first thing tomorrow in Minnesota. No term limits will be needed for her. Remember that the mantra is always tax and spend. It has raised its ugly head again in the form of those mentioned above. Don’t be lulled into thinking that they will stop with just the ultra-rich. This will be just the start. You will be next.

While many Democrats have previously backed higher taxes for the wealthiest Americans, they’ve rarely made the issue such an early focal point of their campaigns. Perhaps the last time this was brought to the public’s attention in an election was Democratic nominee Walter Mondale in 1984, when he pledged to raise voters’ taxes. What a surprise, he lost to President Reagan in a historic landslide. Caveat emptor

  1. If people would do some research, they would find that the Income tax is 100% voluntary. The IRS is not a Government agency. It is a private collection agency for the (Vatican world bank). You may also find that only government employees are required to file tax returns. The income tax does not go to the government. It goes to the DEEP STATE FEDERAL RESERVE BANK. IT IS TIME FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE TO WAKE UP AND OPEN THEIR EYES TO WHAT IS AND HAS HAPPENED FOR YEARS

  2. A very small increase in taxes for the super wealthy would not truly matter in their lives. They will still find ways to stay rich and even increase their wealth. The monies collected at this level will make the entire country more content. If we want to make America great again, think back to the free-for-all educational system many of our middle-aged and older citizens enjoyed. The purchasing power of the dollar was greater for the average American. Come on, patriots – look around at our crumbling infrastructure and at how the US is seen abroad, and pitch in a bit more. Come on patriots, you know our president is fairly insane and totally lacking in compassion. . .

  3. unfortunately , a lot of voters are the ones that not paying taxes, or even working. and they don’t care except that they get there handouts and entitlements. So they will vote for whomever promises to give them that. When did America ‘s voting base tip the scale to be more takers than givers . and does it come back to the well intended , abeit naïve people that voted laws , and candidates in that gave these handouts out. I don’t know if this can be turned around now.
