NIH Head Levels Fiery Accusation at Rand Paul

NIH head has accused Senator Rand Paul of spreading “misinformation” about US ties to Wuhan lab.

On a recent Fox News broadcast, National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director Dr. Francis Collins accused Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) of spreading “misinformation” about the use of federal grant money by the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China.

Collins’s scathing comments were in response to accusations made by Paul earlier that same week. On similar broadcasts,  Paul accused the NIH and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) of funding so-called “gain of function” research into bat coronaviruses through grants. Gain of function research refers to the process of studying viruses by making them more virulent and transmissible in people.

“It’s really unfortunate that a lot of misinformation is being spread around here,” Collins insisted on Fox News’ “Special Report.”

“Let me be very clear, we never approved any grant that would have supported gain of function research on dangerous coronaviruses to see if they could be more transmissible or lethal for individuals in the human species,” Collins added. “That was not something that we would have done … we never approved that kind of research, and that’s something Sen. Paul might want to be a bit more clear about.”

Newsweek reported last year that the NIH funded a two-phase research project by the Wuhan Institute of Virology that started in 2014 and looked at bat coronaviruses. The first phase of the project, which concluded in 2019, had a budget of $3.7 million. The second phase, which was run by the nonprofit EcoHealth Alliance, “included some gain-of-function work,” according to Newsweek. Politico reported in April of last year that the NIH had abruptly cut off funding for the project.

“I can categorically tell you that nothing we approved would have included this kind of gain of function research on SARS CoV-2,” Collins reiterated during his “Special Report” appearance on Friday, May 14.

The NIH head also told host Shannon Bream that while he believed the coronavirus “most likely … spilled over from bats into humans by some transmission that we haven’t fully understood,” a thorough investigation was necessary.

“The idea of some kind of lab accident has been out there, and I would not say that the investigation that was done by [the] WHO earlier this year satisfied anybody as far as really looking into the details of that,” said Collins, who added, “we don’t know the answer yet, and we need to know.”

Do you think the US government is still withholding evidence and knowledge it has of the origins of COVID-19? Please reply using the comments below!

  1. Rand Paul is not lying. I heard thaat story about transferring work to Wuhan 6 months ago. They were working on it here until someone relaiized they were breaking the law THEN the transferred it to Wuhan without properly auditing their security and safety protocols.
I heard that story AGAIN today on the radio when the author of the Law banning experimentation of germ warfare was interviewed.
Apparently yelling a lie and feigning outrage is how Democrats think they can lie and be perceived to be telling the truth.

  2. Rand Paul is totally correct. In fact last year a Chinese scientist who worked at the Wuhan Lab defected to the USA and she said the COVID-19 was created in the Wuhan lab. No affiliation with animals. It first appeared as a video from her on Facebook. Her husband worked there too, but stayed there in China.

  3. Raul Paul is speaking the truth, it is NIH and Fraudie that is lying! They got caught with their pants down.

  4. Just a difference in semantics, I’m sure the NIH Director has put a little different spin on this. Kinda like Trump being called a liar for using the word wiretap, when in todays world no wires involved. Still everyone knew what he meant. And it was proven to be true.

  5. Perhaps not the government per se’ but the NIH and Fauai, absolutely!

  6. I would say a LOT is missing. Fauci and China BOTH has a lot of “splainin’ to do”.
THIS is NO accidental “jumping to humans by accidental contact” nonsense.

  7. Sorry to say it but the US Government is corrupt and I feel is withholding evidence on the true origin of the COVID-19 virus. This has to do with population control plus more sinister goals for our country. None of this is a coincidence…just like the mask wearing and now the vaccine. Too much is being made of the vaccine not to make many people suspicious of what is really going on. Liberal states such as Oregon are attempting to pass legislation and laws to allow people to be discriminated against based on their vaccine status. It totally eliminates HIPAA and allows anyone to verify your medical records and whether you have received the COVID vaccine or not. This is Nazi Germany all over again. There are many people who don’t want to think for themselves and want government to think for them and that is a scary place to be because there is a price to pay when you give yourself over to government to take care of you as well as think and make decisions for you. That isn’t freedom. That is communism. This one is a no brainer for those who choose to think for themselves.

  8. Of course he’s not lying. Everybody already knew about the wuhan labs a year ago. Why do you think we call it the china virus. NIH, the American people and Mr. Paul know the truth. This whole ‘pandemic’ was a means to control American’s lives and fear monger. It hasn’t worked.

  9. Rand tells the truth. The NIH is lying big time just like the WHO and FOS Fauci
