Nootropics for Combating Stress, Anxiety & Depression

  17 Feb 2020

Prescription “nootropics” are pharmaceuticals, usually amphetamines, which are used to stimulate the production of particular neurotransmitters, or “brain chemicals,” to treat disorders such as stress and anxiety. One of the most commonly known and prescribed such nootropics is Adderall, which is used to treat ADHD.

While these pharmaceuticals can be helpful, like most drugs, they are loaded with side effects. However, there are many naturally occurring nootropics, which can also be used to combat stress, anxiety and depression – some you may actually use every day!

By definition, caffeine, commonly found in coffee, tea and soft drinks, is a nootropic. Most of us know how a daily cup of coffee can improve mood and boost mental focus.

Other natural nootropics that can be used to treat stress and anxiety include:

L-Theanine – L-Theanine is a popular and widely used substance that helps with mood enhancement and alleviating anxiety and stress. This substance is extracted from tea leaves that are popular in East Asia. Generally, this substance produces a relaxing effect to the person without feeling drowsy.

Omega-3 fatty acids – Omega 3s are powerful antioxidants, but they also have nootropic properties. Omega-3 fatty acids are among the most well-known and well-studied mental enhancers, and have long been known to boost “brain health.”

Phenibut – Phenibut is a natural tranquilizer. Phenibut is among those known to be “calming nootropics”, meaning it fights away the feelings of stress and being tensed up, leaving a light and relaxed feeling. At the same time it stimulates dopamine, a neurotransmitter that is responsible for improving an individual’s mood, making him/her feel happy, positive and motivated.

Noopept – Noopept is a commercially available “over-the-counter” nootropic that has been shown in studies to provide protection for brain cells and to help keep the brain healthy. In further studies, it was also shown to provide significant improvement to individuals who already have cognitive and mental problems, which makes it an effective substance to fight anxiety and depression.

There have been little or no side effects reported with the use of any of these nootropics to relive stress and anxiety.

Have you used any of these natural nootropics? What have been your results? Please reply using the comments below.
