Radiofrequency Lasers Provide Non-surgical Facelift

  03 Feb 2020

Did you know that there are safe and effective ways to get a “facelift” without the need for complicated plastic surgery?

Many cosmetic practices across the nation are using radiofrequency devices and “remodeling” lasers that are capable of heating the collagen deep below the skin without damaging the skin, to give a tightening effect. The heat produced by the laser under the epidermis, causes a contraction of the collagen fibers to create a tightening effect. In addition, it will stimulate local microcirculation to promote skin regeneration thanks to better blood flow providing oxygen and nutrients to the skin.

Doctors who provide such treatments say that there is no immediate visible trace or annoying consequences because the skin above the surface remains intact.

In cosmetic medicine, sagging skin is difficult to treat and, until recently, only the surgical face lift was the solution, by removing excess skin on the face and on the body. In recent years, a few non-invasive treatments have started to yield convincing results. The use of these radio frequency lasers is one of the latest.

Like similar non-invasive treatments such as dermal laser and LED treatments, radiofrequency uses energy to stimulate collagen and elastin production, but the heat energy is electrical rather than light based. Cosmetic surgeons who use the technique say it’s this tightening, firming action, brought about by boosting collagen and elastin synthesis, that makes radiofrequency especially suitable for targeting loose skin of the neck and chin, and wrinkles and lines that develop between the nose and mouth.

The average radiofrequency treatment takes anywhere between 20 and 45 minutes and there’s very little downtime – you’re likely to experience a bit of redness for up to 24 hours afterwards but that’s about it. During the treatment a machine will heat your skin to a bearable 38-40 degrees. There is no pain, or a burning sensation.

Nationwide, cosmetic surgeons say they have seen an increase in both men and women seeking radiofrequency treatments. They say that the beauty of radiofrequency is that it is suitable for most people – the depth of heating helps to firm, tighten and lift as well as reinvigorating skin for a healthy glow.

Physicians I spoke with say that after radiofrequency treatment, you can go back to work or play almost immediately.
